After a year of online events we would like to treat you like the royals you are during this amazing research trip to the sunny south of our beautiful country. Or as the southern people would say: “BENDE AL IN BRABANT GEWEEST?!”

The luxurious castle we may call ours for this week, is located in the kei gezellige” part of the country: BrabantOur trip will start in the little town Oijenwhich is located between the historic city 's-Hertogenbosch and vibrant student city Nijmegen. We probably all know what's typical for this regioncarnaval, great local breweries, good food like a Bossche bol (chocolate cream pastries) and "worstenbroodjes” (bread with a sausage), beautiful nature, friendly people and cozy villages. We plan to integrate at least some of these examples in our research trip 2021. Sounds delightful, right? So what's holding you back?

Our challenge: Alternative protein

With a focus on the Food & Agri sector, Rabobank seeks to contribute to ‘Growing a Better World Together’. As a result, Rabobank’s Food & Agri portfolio exists of many traditional farmers. Yet, the world is shifting towards a different diet that includes alternative protein. In response, Rabobank has broadened its vision by incorporating alternative protein to its portfolio. But isn’t this shift controversial to the largest part of Rabo’s Food & Agri portfolio?

During the research trip, you will form your own opinion on this issue while participating in many activities, such as meeting some of Rabo’s key partners and clients in alternative protein. Simultaneously, you will learn more about the environmental impact of animal protein versus alternative protein, innovation and trends, health, psychology and culture and many more themes. Our research findings will form the recipe for our organization to impact the alternative protein sector to Growing a Better World Together.

Besides this research component, there is a serious personal leadership aspect to the trip. Our facilitators will help you develop the leadership skills of the future. By expanding your perspective on personal leadership, you will further deepen your understanding of yourself, your environment and our organization. Since you cannot grow a better future by yourself, start thinking: what makes you a future Rabo leader? And remember, leadership is not attached to your business card: everyone is a leader.

As the research trip normally would take place far away from the Netherlands, this year we would rather focus on the theme. Due to Covid, there would be too much uncertainty if we could go abroad. At the same time, the Netherlands has a significantly developed alterative protein market. So, why even go abroad?! This year, the home base of this research trip will be in Oijen, Brabant. We will stay at a beautiful castle that provides us with all our needs.

Number of participants and selection criteria

The number of participants is limited to 40 Jong Rabo members.

Your motivation in regards to the theme and view of personal leadership will be the main criteria in the selection process. Besides those main criteria we will strive to create a diverse group of participants that represent Jong Rabo.

What do we expect from you?

Personal contribution

The research trip is made possible thanks to substantial contributions from both the Rabobank Managing Board and Jong Rabo. But you do have to chip in as well. This year the personal contribution has been set to 300 Euro. This will help cover the trip, stay, meals, transport and all planned activities. After you have been selected we will inform you how you can pay your personal contribution.

Internal sponsorship

Every year part of the budget is obtained by asking direct managers or whole departments to contribute as well. We request that you ask your management or department if they are willing to sponsor a (small) part of the research trip. Maybe it is more an investment than a sponsorship, because your manager and department are going to benefit from the experience that you will bring back. We will help you with this.

Kick-off

Since we will perform an in-depth research assignment during our research trip, ánd because it's nice to meet each other, we are organizing two kick-offs. During these kick-off sessions we will inform you about the way we plan to do our research, a lot of practical stuff of the trip and we will get to know each other a little better.

  • Kick-off 1: Thursday September 30th 2021
  • Kick-off 2: Thursday October 14th 2021

The kick-offs are mandatory as they are an integral part of the total journey and experience. We need you all to be there. Where the kick-offs will be held is to be decided.

Reunion

Because we all love to reminisce about this incredible trip we are going to take together, we will have a reunion. The reunion is planned for: November 25, 2021.

Practicalities

We strongly advise all participants to get travel insurance, even while staying in the Netherlands. Jong Rabo is not liable for damage of any kind.
