Visit a Dutch farm in Giethoorn with Dutch pancakes and drinks afterwards!

Have you always wanted to visit a Dutch farmer and see how they grow potatoes for your Lays? This is your chance! 

From the Sustainability & Innovation committee we are going to a Dutch farm named Agro Giethoorn in Giethoorn. This is one of the bigger farms we have in the Netherlands. They are one of the frontrunners concerning the principles of ‘Kringlooplandbouw.’ This means, amongst others that all the manure they produce is reused on the farm.

Agro Giethoorn has got 450ha of land, of which 280ha is used for potatoes, which produces 16 million kilos of potatoes. A large part of the potatoes are destined to become Lays, the famous chips brand! Next to that they have 115.000 chickens, which have the “De Goede Nest Kip’’ label. This means that the chickens have more time to grow, compared to the average.

On top of that, in order to close the circle even more, Agro Giethoorn uses a Green Gas installation. The installation can produce energy for 5.500 families. The waste heat is used for the chickens in the barns.

After visiting the farm we are going to Giethoorn, i.e. Venice of the Netherlands!

Here we are welcomed to another client of Rabobank. We will be going to Grand Café Fanfare, one of the famous restaurants in Giethoorn. Back in the day, one of the first Dutch movies ever was filmed there. It’s the second best movie ever to be played in the theaters! Here we'll be getting a boat tour with drinks and bites. When we come back, we'll have dinner in the form of a tapas buffet of Dutch Pancakes!

Note: You can’t visit the farm with public transport. So travel together. From the train station Steenwijk it’s just 10/15 minutes’ drive. 

2nd Note: Your personal fee is €15,- and there's a no show fee of €38.50, from which the sign-up fee will be deducted. In other words, if you've signed up, paid and you don't show up an extra €23,50 will be invoiced to you. This just to cover the costs of the activity! Furthermore, the sign-out date is until the 26th, the closure date.
